7 San Diego Wedding Venues Every Couple Should Know
Some Thoughtfully Priced, Affordable Venues for Your Dream Wedding (From a Local San Diego Photographer)
Planning a wedding in San Diego, California means choosing a venue that not only fits your vision but also provides unforgettable settings for your photos and your celebration. As a San Diego wedding photographer, I have shot over 300 weddings all over the county over my 12 years. Yes, that’s a long time! From coastal venues to lush gardens and urban rooftops, here are 7 wedding venues in the San Diego area that I have personally enjoyed shooting, and which are reasonably budget friendly.
Flora — Downtown Botanical Chic
Flora The Venue is a standout choice in the heart of San Diego for couples who love the blend of style and greenery. With a living plant wall, skylights, garden chandeliers, and bespoke design elements that feel both elegant and personal, Flora is perfect for weddings that balance sophistication with natural beauty. We’ve especially loved all the amazing photography spots within a very short walk of Flora. I’ve always felt like there was an endless number of backdrops within an easy few minutes walk of the venue. A few of the very favorite spots are literally 1.5 blocks from the front door of the venue! The staff at Flora are truly one of the venue’s standout features. Warm, professional, and deeply invested in making your wedding day feel seamless and joyful. From the first planning conversation to the last dance, they bring genuine care, thoughtful communication, and calm confidence to every detail. Their experience and attention mean that couples can relax knowing they’re supported by a team who not only understands logistics, but also how important every moment is.
The Thursday Club — Coastal Garden Charm
Perched above the ocean in Point Loma, The Thursday Club combines timeless Spanish-style architecture with lush gardens and breathtaking water views. This venue’s winding paths, flowing fountain, and multiple patio spaces make it ideal for romantic ceremonies and naturally beautiful photography. Your guests will really enjoy the freedom to party in the historic ballroom, or relax and take in the view from the deck. The ballroom really does shoot so beautifully. The tall ceilings and clean walls always make for great natural light or a clean bounce from my flash after sunset.
Their team is also really, really great to work with. I’ve worked most of my Thursday Club weddings with Courtney from Breezy Day Weddings and have always enjoyed her friendly, enthusiastic energy.
San Diego Botanic Garden — Natural Botanical Beauty
For couples who adore lush landscapes and floral backdrops, San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas is an outstanding choice. Its sprawling lawns, historic gardens, and intimate water features provide a variety of enchanting settings for ceremonies and portraits alike. The ceremonies in the walled garden always look, and feel, great! The park offers endless lush paths to explore for portraits with the couple or wedding parties. The reception lawn is one of my favorites in all of Southern California. Easy to shoot and navigate!
Big huge shout out to Jackquelyn from Josefina Events for flawless execution of quite a few weddings I’ve been fortunate to shoot at the Botanical Garden. Always a pleasure to work with!
Paradise Point Resort & Spa — Tropical Island Vibes
If you want ocean, palm trees, lush gardens and sandy beaches, Paradise Point on Mission Bay delivers a quintessential San Diego wedding experience. With lawns overlooking the water, tropical gardens, tranquil lagoons, and even beachside ceremony options, this resort venue blends relaxed island charm with a timeless elegance. From waterfront ceremonies on the grass to tropical-garden receptions and relaxed beachside gatherings, the space offers multiple scenic settings all within one location. Its variety of ceremony sites, reception lawns, and indoor options makes it easy for couples to design a day that feels uniquely theirs. The staff is always super helpful, even offering golf cart rides, which is priceless when carrying heavy photo equipment on your back! We have shot everything from 200 person weddings to smaller 25 people elopements and I’d proudly showcase any of them! I believe they also have an in house caterer, and they’re quite good. An all around great option for a San Diego wedding that truly feels like Southern California.
The Lane — Waterfront Modern & Versatile
The Lane offers expansive indoor and outdoor spaces overlooking the San Diego bay. The large, minimal spaces offers a perfect blank slate for couples with a creative vision. Its sleek design, terrace views, and ample room for large celebrations make it a strong choice for modern weddings with coastal and city ambience. With sweeping views of the bay, gentle breezes, and waterfront light that glows at sunset, it creates an unforgettable backdrop for every moment of your celebration. A modern airy atmosphere that lets your wedding feel both grand and deeply personal! Some great options for photos include some historical downtown buildings and the bayfront walkway. One couple I shot had a small San Diego trolley at their disposal for a few hours, which was especially nice and offered maximum freedom of photo locations.
Green Gables Wedding Estate — Timeless Garden Romance
Just north of San Diego in San Marcos, Green Gables Wedding Estate is a historic garden venue that feels like stepping into a classic storybook wedding. Ivy-covered arbors, blooming rose gardens, water features, and huge old trees make this space unqiue for both ceremonies and receptions. It is a truly enchanting wedding venue where timeless romance meets natural beauty. The lush gardens and pathways always make for great photo opportunities. Its old schoolhouse building and lush surroundings offer endless options for great light at any time of the day. The reception tent is always nicely curated and gets and amazingly clean bounce for the flashes. Trust me, this really matters after sundown. There are various options for the ceremony and I’ve enjoyed shooting all of them. As bonus, the venue offers wedding packages that bundle in the catering and other vendors, such as DJs.
Ultimate Skybox at DiamondView Tower — Rooftop Elegance with a View
For couples dreaming of a downtown celebration with a skyline backdrop, The Skybox delivers unmatched urban views of San Diego Bay, Coronado, and Petco Park. Its versatile indoor & outdoor space, panoramic vistas, and golden sunset light create stunning photos from ceremony through reception. Whether you’re saying your vows at sunset or dancing under twinkling lights, Ultimate Skybox offers a stunning setting that’s as vibrant and memorable as the day you’ll share there. East Village is a short walk from the venue, offering some urban backdrops for photos. Ceremonies look great both in the indoor space and on the outdoors deck. The light can be quite strong late in the afternoon, so you’ll want to work with an experienced photographer at this venue. Knowing just how to work with strong, direct light, is extremely important for your images. The venue is close walking distance to many hotels, which makes it all so easy logistically.
